‘The projected growth rate is lower than in the past ten years, reflecting the long-term decline in the energy intensity of the Australian economy, and energy efficiency improvements, both of which can be expected to be reinforced by policy responses to climate change,’ said Paul Morris, Deputy Executive Director, ABARE when releasing the report. ‘Coal is expected to continue to dominate Australia’s electricity generation mix but a shift to lower-emissions fuels is expected to result in a significant reduction in coal’s share and increases in gas and renewable energy. ‘Within the renewable energy cluster, wind energy is expected to account for most of the growth.
